Real-Options

Given the nature of student needs, SCCDS communicates regularly with primary educational partners: 1) Wrap-Around Services including Probation and various social services; 2) referring sites 3) Freshlines, (FLY) which supports students involved and impacted by the justice system, 4) Real - Options which helps students navigate difficult decisions, 5) and the Creatrix Institute which provides students with opportunities to express their trauma and personal narrative in a collective voice that represents the marginalized experience and their communities through lyrics, beats, and storytelling (Work Product from SCCDS students developed during the Creatrix academy 2025).

Assessment - Driven Practices

SCCDS maintains an assessment-driven culture that ensures the academic success of every student. Teachers ensure that every class focuses on developing students’ literacy and technology practices in conjunction with subject-specific skills and content knowledge. Math development is also prioritized across content areas, and it is integrated into our core subjects and electives. Additionally, the Algebra, Geometry, and Foundational math class increase accessibility by connecting math to real-life contexts (budgeting, sports stats, social justice data,  budgeting and monthly incomes, sales tax, and credit card interests). For example, interdisciplinary units are used in English for data and graph analysis; in history, projects that include examining migration trends or timelines, and in Art to understand scale drawings.
